Hats Off To Chemo
WATERLOO, ONTARIO
Thank You To The Fastball Community !
On behalf of the Waterloo Hallman Twins, the Schnarr family and the Hats
Off to Chemo program, our sincere thank you is extended to the teams,
players, friends and fans, who made our hat collection drive an overwhelming
success this past weekend, at the Peter Hallman Twins Classic.
What started off as weekend goal of 1000 hat donations , turned into a
phenomenal outpouring of kindness, and nearly 3000 hats were contributed
over the 3 day weekend.
The Hats Off to Chemo program was established in Canada, in 1999. The goal
of this organization is to collect and distribute hats to children and
adults across Canada, who are undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
The simple approach of collecting hats from individuals, corporations and
celebrities, enables the the group to supply hats to Regional Cancer Centres
and Cancer Support Groups, across the country.
As many of you in the softball world know, three Schnarr brothers, members
of the Hallman Twins, lost their mother to cancer, during the Peter Hallman
Twins Classic, in 2000. Jodie Schnarr, became involved in the Hats Off
program , as a tribute to his mother, and the Schnarr family and the Twins
have championed his cause this season. We will continue to collect hats at
all games we participate in this summer, and encourage your support in this
program.
The Peter Hallman Twins Classic, was washed out by rain on Sunday, but the
true meaning of why so many of us give up our time week in and week out, to
play, coach and enjoy this game, really shone through. All of us have
experienced the terrible effects of cancer, in all of our families. While
the game is why we sacrifice so much of our time over the years, it is the
special relationships that we build at the park, that allows all of us to
come away champions.
The Hats Off To Chemo program measures success by the number of hats, and
smiles, it can deliver to children and adults, across the country. The
Kitchener-Waterloo community thanks all of you for your support, and the
3000 plus hats, have made our efforts, a Grand Slam Success.
